The Collegium of Supreme Court of India passed resolutions by recommending Advocate Shri.B.Pugalendhi and the District Judge Mrs.B.Sarodjiny Devy for appointment as Judges of Madras High Court. Earlier the proposal of Mrs.Sarodjiny Devy is deferred on the ground that “As regards Smt. B.Sarodjiny Devy, (mentioned at Sl. No. 1 above), keeping in view the fact that inquiry is pending against her in the High Court, the Collegium resolves that the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court be requested to send further information with regard to the said inquiry. In view of the above, the proposal for her elevation is accordingly deferred for being resubmitted on receipt of the above information from the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.”
Later on, the Chief Justice of Madras High Court reported that no departmental enquiry is pending against Mrs.Sarodjiny Devy vide his letter dated 13-11-2017. Thereafter, the Collegium interacted with Mrs.Sarodjiny Devy and satisfied with all respects and passed the present resolution by recommending her name.
As far as Mr.B.Pulendhi is concerned, his proposal is referred in the earlier occasion on the ground that “As regards Shri B. Pugalendhi (mentioned at Sl.No.6 above), certain adverse but unconfirmed inputs have been received by the Collegium. The Collegium considers it appropriate to get the same verified before taking final decision on the proposal for his elevation. Consideration of the proposal for his elevation can wait till the verification is got done by the Collegium. In that view of the matter, the proposal for elevation of Shri B. Pugalendhi is deferred for the present.”
Later on, the Chief Justice of Madras High Court clarified the doubts regarding Mr.B.Pugalendhi and after a personal interaction with him, the Collegium recommended his name.
